“I tried every diet in the book. I tried some that weren’t in the book. I tried eating the book. It tasted better than most of the diets.” ~Dolly Parton
Being overweight or obese is a major cause of preventable health problems in this country. I know it is a very personal issue and can be uncomfortable to talk about, but I think the stakes are too high to ignore it.
First of all, understand that being overweight is not your fault. It’s not your lack of will power, or lack of control. There are many factors making you eat more. You are sabotaged by temptation day and night.
We are all humans, and the primitive part of our brain knows nothing except how to instinctively survive. It is this brain that seduces us into eating more and more food. The mechanism behind this is so that in times of plenty you eat as much as you can. You eat all that is available and store up fat. That way when food is scarce you have reserves to carry you through the tough times. We feast in times of plenty to survive the times of famine.
The problem is we live in the land of plenty. Most of us never go hungry. We keep storing up energy, but the famine never comes and we get bigger and bigger and bigger.
That being said, even though it is not your fault, you are the one who suffers the consequences and, therefore, only you can fight the circumstances stacked against you.
